Jon Entine is a journalist focusing on sustainability, science, and public policy issues. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Center for Health & Risk Communication and the Statistical Assessment Service (STATS) at George Mason University, where he is the founding director of the Genetic Literacy Project. Jon is also co-founder of ESG MediaMetrics, a firm that advises corporations and NGOs on Environmental, Social, and Governance topics, as well as issues regarding brand reputation and strategic communications. Jon has written a column for the British-based international magazine Ethical Corporation since 2000 and has been a visiting fellow at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research in Washington, D.C. since 2002. He writes for academic and popular publications around the world and is a frequent television and radio commentator on business issues, including CNN, MSNBC, Fox Business, NPR, and BBC. Before launching his consulting and writing career, Jon spent 19 years as a network television news producer, winning more than twenty awards, including Emmys for specials on the reform movements in China and the Soviet Union. |

John B. Hallagan serves as General Counsel to the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA). In addition, he provides scientific consulting services to the flavor and color additive industries. This includes scientific and technical program management, safety assessment reviews, and report and publication development. His two publications with Richard Hall that describe the framework and legal underpinnings of the GRAS concept, particularly as it applies to food flavorings, are seminal and important contributions to the food industry.
Mr. Hallagan has served his clients in a variety of capacities during his over thirty years of service. He served as Scientific Director for FEMA for nine years during the 1990s during which time the flavor industry initiated several major scientific programs to expand the activities of the FEMA Expert Panel, and to work towards a global open positive list of flavoring substances. He currently serves as Legal Advisor to the FEMA Expert Panel. In addition to his law degree, John also has a degree in Zoology and extensive training in toxicology. He has published extensively on the topics of flavor and color additive safety, and food and color additive regulation, and has made numerous invited presentations to the Food and Drug Administration, the American Chemical Society, the National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Food Technologists, and others. | |

Kimberly Reed is Executive Director of the International Food Information Council (IFIC) Foundation in Washington, DC. She also serves as Senior Vice President for Membership, Communications, and Strategic Initiatives at IFIC. In addition to leading the development of the Foundation, Ms. Reed oversees IFIC's Media Relations, International Relations, and Trends and Consumer Insights Programs. She also currently serves as a member of National Board of Directors of the Alzheimer’s Association, Board of Trustees of West Virginia Wesleyan College, and Advisory Council of the International Center of Excellence in Food Risk Communication, and was named one of the top 100 Women Leaders in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
Ms. Reed has extensive experience at senior levels in both the public and private sectors, including as Senior Advisor to two U.S. Treasury Secretaries; Director of the U.S. Treasury Department’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund; Counsel to the U.S. Congress; and Vice President for Financial Markets Policy Relations at Lehman Brothers, Inc. | |

Gene Grabowski is a distinguished communications counselor and former journalist with a reputation for creating and implementing high-level strategic communications plans, conducting effective media outreach and working with the national news media for Fortune 500 companies, major law firms, government agencies and food and agricultural associations. He has designed and executed scores of national crisis and communications training programs for food trade associations and for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Prior to joining Levick, Mr. Grabowski served as the Vice President of Communications and Marketing for The Grocery Manufacturers of America. In addition to developing and implementing GMA's news media outreach programs, he was the organization's chief communications strategist and national spokesperson. |

FEMA is pleased to recognize Dr. Chi-Tang Ho with the 2012 FEMA Excellence in Flavor Science Award. Dr. Ho is a professor in the Department of Food Science at Rutgers University.
Dr. Ho has won numerous awards for his work, and has published more than 360 papers and articles. He sits on the editorial boards of a dozen food science journals and has served as chair of the Division of Agricultural and Food Chemistry of the American Chemical Society. His current research interests focus on the antioxidant and anti-cancer properties of natural products. |

Dr. Joseph Baumert currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Food Science & Technology and Co-Director of the Food Allergy Research & Resource Program at the University of Nebraska.
Dr. Baumert received his Ph.D. in food science and technology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, specializing in food allergy research in association with the Food Allergy Research and Resource Program. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Animal Science at the University of Nebraska specializing in Meat Science and Muscle Biology. Dr. Baumert’s research interests include determination of minimal eliciting doses for specific allergenic foods, examination of the digestive stability of major food allergens, and monitoring the in vivo distribution of digestion-resistant allergens in the human body over time, as well as the development and improvement of immunochemical methods for detection of allergenic food proteins. |

Dr. Jan C.R. Demyttenaere joined EFFA in 2004 and is responsible for all matters relating to scientific and regulatory affairs for all flavor-related issues in Europe. He graduated in 1991 from Ghent University with a degree in chemical and agricultural engineering. In 1992, following post-graduate work in Swansea UK, he began his doctoral work at Ghent University on the biotransformation of terpenes by fungi. He received his PhD in 1997 from Ghent University. Dr. Demyttenaere is a member of the IOFI (International Organization of the Flavor Industry) Science Board, representing the European flavor industry at the global level, and the IOFI WGMA (Working Group on Methods of Analysis). He has published various papers in peer reviewed scientific journals and books on the above topics. | |

Alexandro Juárez Salomo is the Latin America Regional Director for MANE Inc. and has been with the company since 1988. In his time at MANE, Mr. Juárez Salomo has held positions as a Sensory Analyst, Flavorist, Operations Manager and Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Manager.
He earned his B.S. and M.B.A. from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and attended Harvard Business School, where he earned a Diploma in Managers Skills for Small Business Enterprises. Mr. Juárez Salomo is a member of IFT, serving as Vice-Chairman and Secretary of the Mexico Chapter. He is also the Dean of the Technical Committee of Mexico’s Asociacion Nacional de Fabricantes de Productos Aromaticos, A.C. |
